James Braid was one of the greatest players of his generation. Along with John Henry Taylor and Harry Vardon, they were a dominant force in the late 19th and early 20th century. Known as ‘the Triumvirate’, they won 16 Open Championship titles between them; Braid and Taylor each won five times and Vardon an unbeaten six times. This pocket watch was presented to Braid in 1908, in recognition of his record score of 291 at that year’s Open Championship at Prestwick.
